Continuing to Trust LastPass

Many people are panicking over the purchase of LastPass by Logmein. This is somewhat justified after Logmein's rescinding its promise that there would always be a free version of Logmein, and its shutting down of Hamachi. There are concerns, and they are reasonable concerns.

However, there was a very good interview this week on Security Now! episode 529 with LastPass founder Joe Siegrist. They spoke with him about the concerns users have and how LastPass plans to address them.  Siegrist stated that he would continue to be in charge of LastPass and that he has been told he will be in total control.   I think we will need to keep an eye on LastPass and how Logmein treats it over the next year or two, but for now, with Siegrist in charge, I think we can continue to trust it.    I will, however, start keeping an offline backup of my LastPass database, so that I can switch at a moment's notice.
